intern in Manufacturing R&D
Duration: six months
Start: Jan 2023
Vestas aircoil, with headquarters in Lem, Denmark, is a well-consolidated, profitable multinational company with about 400 employees spread across Denmark, China, Romania and the USA. Vestas aircoil has designed and manufactured coolers since 1956. Since then, we have developed into a global leader in providing high-performance and reliable engine cooling systems to the world's largest engine manufacturers. Vestas aircoil has transformed itself from a traditional forging company to a modern technology-driven company, and we continue to invest further in R&D. At Vestas aircoil, we want to continuously develop, through high levels of quality and service, by developing and delivering customer-driven solutions matching market requirements and expectations. Our mission is to be a unified, global, market-leading company.
You will be a part of the advanced R&D laboratory in Denmark, where we develop new technology and solution. The R&D lab - Center of Excellence is a testing facility with experimental equipment and specialised hardware/software tools. Vestas aircoil also has a large charge air cooler test rig able to test small and medium-sized coolers under operating conditions. Concerning computational infrastructure, we have dedicated workstations for numerical simulations and expertise in setting up efficient numerical simulations. The R&D Team at Vestas aircoil consists of seven personnel. The majority of our employees have academic backgrounds and qualifications corresponding to a long cycle of higher education (PhD.). We value the R aspect of R&D as much as we value the development. The R&D team at Vestas aircoil offers a dynamic multicultural, multidisciplinary work environment and the opportunity to be part of a team where creativity and curiosity play an important role. You will benefit from thorough on-the-job development, coaching and training. We have a long tradition of mentoring and assisting multinational research students; for example, see here.
Student enrolled in the final year of Bachelor's degree in Engineering or on the Master's degree in Engineering at a European University
Interested and knowledgeable in mechanical design and manufacturing engineering
Hungry and coachable
Fluent in English
Take part in our work to strengthen use of digitalization in all our business processes.
You can work with topics like AI, machine learning, optimization, data mining, Industri 4.0
Use some of basic tools such as Ansys, LS-Dyna, Openfoam, Inventor, Spaceclaim, DesignSparc Mechanical. For integration of topics/software and optimization we often use open source and develop our own code. In other areas we may integrate via customer/supplier software/technical systems. We often build prototype systems based on e.g. Arduino, 3D print to test system functionality – these systems are then upgraded to match industrial need.
Take part in some of our running projects – which typical includes people from our factories in Romania and China.
These projects can range from everyday production handling to longer term research/development projects.
Take part in experiments to generate empirical data or collect data from production
Be curious – openminded and contribute to the solutions of tomorrow
Work on your project
You will be mentored by R&D Lab Scientist Karl Brian Nielsen and assist in research and the test of new ideas, the testing may be related to implementation in running production. We encourage you to come up with your own project ideas related to the design and manufacture of coolers. We value knowledge (and the building of knowledge) even when it does not contribute directly to our day-to-day business.
Place of employment
Lem, Central Denmark.
We can only accept students not requiring a work permit or visa to be eligible to perform an internship in Denmark for a six-month period.
